QR Code and Aesop's Fables
For this activity, I broke a short folk tale into several pieces. Students are meant to work in small groups to collect the pieces (each embedded in a QR code) and review them together. After determining their meaning, students must organize the parts of the story to make chronological sense.
Using a relevant form of technology such as QR codes allows students to experience technology learning while undertaking a more traditional academic task. In this case, I believe it makes a somewhat typical activity more engaging and fun and expect students to be more involved than they would be if the task were simply presented on paper. Working in small groups limits the need for lots of tech tools- one smartphone or QR reader per group is all that is needed. Furthermore, it is a well-rounded activity which involves both reading and speaking comprehension. I would like to expand this type of lesson plan to include activities such as treasure hunts and choose your own adventure series in order to engage students further and get them excited about class.

The Tortoise and The Hare
There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch. Hare ran down the road for a while and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?" Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax." Slow and Steady walked and walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line. The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare. Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line. After that, Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!" Resource: Story Arts | Aesop's ABC | The Tortoise and The Hare. (n.d.).
