“Teaching is only demonstrating that it is possible. Learning is making it possible for yourself.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Pilgrimage
To be a teacher is to have a greater responsibility toward your students than merely the content you teach. It is to create opportunities for students to learn to think critically and develop a variety of transferable skills; to gain confidence and to learn to work together in collaboration. I believe that students whose learning includes an emphasis on autonomy and critical thinking will become more empowered citizens, and over time these lessons will translate into greater equity in the classroom.
I pledge to continue my own education with a special focus on learning about new technologies and ideas with the intention of using them in the classroom, and to continue to learn from and share ideas with other educators in the field in order to achieve this goal for my students and for all students.
